There are differences with last year. Then all models came on the market at the same time, with between 500,000 and 800,000 going in the first 24 hours of sales iPhone 11models in pre-order, Ming-Chi Kuo treasure. At the iPhone 12 that is between 1.7 million and 2 million. But if you look over the whole weekend, then the iPhone 11 slightly ahead with 10 million to 12 million units in the first weekend. At the iPhone 12 that is ‘only’ 7 million to 9 million, but that’s only half the story. Later this year, the iPhone 12 mini in iPhone 12 Pro Max off and they can provide an extra sales boost. If you add those figures in the weekend of 6 to 8 November, you will probably end up much higher.
Kuo does not expect those two later devices to be more popular than the current iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. But if you add up all the numbers, there could be a so-called supercycle: a situation where many people at once decide to upgrade.
Of iPhone 12 Pro is more popular than Kuo expected. People seem to prefer the high-end model. The good figures are also due to the Chinese market and the upcoming peak season for the US and Europe. In the fourth quarter, the iPhone 12 will account for 30% of sales and the iPhone 12 Pro for 35% of sales, Kuo thinks. Previously, he expected 40-45% of people to choose the normal 12. The iPhone 12 mini according to Kuo will comprise 10-15% of sales and the larger ones iPhone 12 Pro Max attracts 15-20% of buyers.
Initially Kuo thought that more people would go for the mini, but especially in China, the small screen appears to be less popular and the fact that there is no double SIM card slot in the smaller model is also holding back the Chinese. They show more interest in the more expensive ones iPhone 12 Pro. Furthermore, the ban appears to affect Huawei. Support for 5G is expected to keep people for the new iPhones select.
Apple itself does not provide detailed figures: since a few quarters no numbers of iPhones have been communicated anymore and the breakdown per model also makes Apple not known. All we know is how much sales have been made.
Of iPhone 12 went into pre-order last Friday and will be in stores from October 23. You can still get one now Reserve iPhone 12, although you do have to take longer delivery times into account. Still, with some effort it is still possible to get your hands on the iPhone on October 23, although you will sometimes have to pay a little more for it or have to bet that a store really has stock. So promises MediaMarkt for some models still delivery on October 23. However, we cannot guarantee that this is actually the case.
