The Swiss immunologist says the world needs to prepare for the emergence of super-coronavirus.
Next year, a new variant of the coronavirus COVID-19 will appear in the world, which will provoke a more dangerous phase of the pandemic, warned Sai Reddy, an immunologist at the Zurich Higher Technical School in interview newspaper Blick, published on Monday 23 August.
“COVID-22 may be even worse than what we are experiencing now,” the scientist said.
According to him, soon the strains Beta from South Africa and Gamma from Brazil, which have already developed mutations, will become even more infectious, and the “Indian” variant of Delta “will learn to bypass immunity.” And these changes, Reddy argues, are inevitable.
In this regard, the expert says that it is necessary to recognize the new variant of the coronavirus as early as possible so that the vaccine companies can quickly adapt their drugs to combat the infection.
“The immune system and the virus are like two dancers. Immunity seems to move, and the virus reacts to it. We will dance with it for a long time. Perhaps, for the rest of our lives,” the immunologist summed up.
Recall that the World Health Organization calculated that Delta strain fixed already in 142 countries of the world, Alpha – in 185, Beta – in 136 countries, and Gamma – in 81st.
