The chamber of instruction from Rennes Court of Appeal (Ille-et-Vilaine) has ordered Friday, July 1, 2022 the release sous electronic bracelet of two young people aged 18 and 19. They were accused of having committed “acts of torture and barbarism” on the brother-in-law of one of them in Lorient (Morbihan) on 22 from 2022.
Three people covered in blood
At around 4 a.m., the May 22, 2022, the police intervened in an apartment on rue de Kerolay after its tenant told them that her boyfriend was “being attacked by his half-brother and a friend of the latter”. On the spot, the investigators had actually discovered “two men smeared with blood”, as well as a third “prone in a corner” and also “covered in blood”. A bloody fork and two knives were also found.
An alcoholic evening
The young woman then indicated that she and her companion had “get back together” ten days earlier. His half-brother T. resented him because the latter had committed “violence against him in the past” and “insulted his mother” who died a year ago.
On the night of the events, T. – “aged 18 for a week” on the day of the events, noted the president of the investigating chamber of the Rennes Court of Appeal on the day of the hearing, 16 June 2022- thus returned from an evening spent “in Gestel » with his friend L.. They had prolonged it in discotheque, where « an altercation » had burst.
“Heavily alcoholic”, the two young people had then returned to the half-sister of the first. His companion had “immediately received hitting the face with a wooden plank » as soon as he opened the apartment door for them.
A filmed assault and death threats
Blows “with a sharp or sharp object” had also been struck, according to a doctor responsible for examining him. The victim – who also had “a cross-shaped wound” traced by a “sharp object” – was ultimately prescribed two weeks of total interruption of work.
The two young attackers had “filmed part of the scene”, noted the president of the investigating chamber during the hearing. These recordings are now in the hands of investigators. They were able to establish that one of them had hit the victim “at the level of the head” and “pushed an object”, holding “a bloody knife in hand”.
“I’m going to finish killing him”, had said this “apprentice in charcuterie” barely major, adding: “We will leave him for dead”. His friend – who is a professional patent (BP) Line driver in the agri-food sector – had given him “two or three kicks in the head” of the victim…
“Immediately”, the two young men then “acknowledged the facts”, according to their lawyers: they are “fully aware of the seriousness” of the acts committed, described by the public prosecutor as acts “torture and barbarism”.
Unknown to justice, the two authors released
Until then unknown to justice, these young people “well in all respects” and who “have the whole future” ahead of them, according to the general counsel, had therefore asked to return to their jobs and to be released from pre-trial detention. The representative of the prosecution, however, feared that these “great white knights” who had wanted to “give a correction” in a “banal context” would repeat another “punitive expedition” of the same type. She had therefore requested their continued detention on remand.
“The plaintiff said” I do not blame them “and” I am not afraid for me “”, had however reminded the hearing Me Iannis Alvarez, the lawyer of the youngest of the two, to obtain his discount released on an electronic bracelet.
“He would lose all his professional integration”, had abounded Me Thomas Delaby, the lawyer of the second detainee, who had wondered “how and why a young man of 18 finds himself involved and actor of a criminal file? “. “His future could be quickly compromised if he is not released. His employer and the director of the CFA say that they will not be able to maintain this job forever, ”he argued.
The investigating chamber of the Rennes Court of Appeal therefore heard their arguments, handing over the two young people free until their trial.
