Morbidelli wins Teruel’s Grand Prix; Mirs increases the lead in the overall standings

Italian motorcyclist Franco Morbidelli from the Petronas Yamaha team won the 11th stage of the most prestigious MotoGP class season of the World Motorway Championship – Teruel Grand Prix – on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Japanese Takaki Nakagami (“LCR Honda Idemitsu”) won the qualification, who was the first to start, but slipped in the third corner and did not continue the race. Prior to that, Australian Jack Miller (“Pramac”) and South African driver Brad Binder (“Red Bull KTM”) crashed.

The leader was Morbidelli, who kept ahead of the whole race. Behind him, two Spaniards representing the Suzuki Ecstar team – Alex Rins and overall leader Hoan Mir.

Fourth was Paul Espargaro of Spain (Red Bull KTM), fifth place was won by former Frenchman Joan Zarko (Esponsorama) and third place was taken by Portuguese Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Tech 3). This was followed by Spaniard Maverick Vinjaless (“Monster Energy Yamaha”) and Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (“Petronas Yamaha”).

The leader with 137 points in the overall World Cup is Mirs, followed by Quartararo with 123 points, Vinjaless with 118 points, Morbidelli in fourth place with 112 points, Andrea Doviciozo (“Ducati”) in Italian with 109 points and sixth in 195 points are Rins.

The first stage of the season was scheduled for March 8 in Qatar, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, MotoGP athletes did not start the championship until the end of July in the Spanish city of Heres.

The season calendar foresees 14 stages this season.
