STM Strike Disrupts ​Montreal‌ Public Transit on Wednesday

Montreal commuters face⁤ continued disruptions to public transit‌ on Wednesday as the ⁤strike by the Montreal Transport⁢ Syndicate ⁢(CSN) enters its next ⁣phase. Both metro and​ bus services will operate⁤ on a⁣ considerably reduced schedule,⁤ impacting travel throughout the day.

The strike, centered on concerns about maintaining ⁢the quality and reliability of public transit through the⁣ expertise of its‍ workforce, will see ⁢metro service limited to peak hours – 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., 2:45 ​p.m. to 5:45 p.m., and 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Buses will not run‌ between 9:15 a.m.and 3 p.m., and again from 6 ‍p.m. to ‍11:15 p.m. This action affects anyone relying on public transportation for work, school, or essential travel on Wednesday. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday ‍services will operate as usual, and “suitable transport will remain ⁣maintained at all times” ⁣during ‍the strike, according to ⁤officials.

Union president Bruno jeannotte emphasized the‍ long-term implications of⁤ the dispute, stating, “We⁣ hope⁣ that people understand that the fight we have today​ is for⁣ them tomorrow. Negotiations between⁢ the‍ union and the ‌Société de ⁣transport de Montréal (STM) ⁤have been extensive, totaling over one‌ hundred meetings.
