Montpellier: at the Trigger bar, Prohibition atmosphere and New York of the 20s

Recently opened rue du Pila Saint-Gély, the Trigger Bar plays on the imagery of Prohibition, when the sale of alcohol was prohibited in the United States. We drink Al Capone’s favorite cocktail and the bottles are served in a briefcase or a violin case! The address is also a spot for match broadcasts.

Dark brick tapestry, subdued lighting, photos of gangsters in costume: the Trigger Bar immediately immerses the customer in the particular atmosphere of Prohibition, when the sale of alcohol was prohibited in the United States. At the head of the recently opened establishment on rue du Pila Saint-Gély, Anthony and Nicolas play on this concept to give a real identity to the place. “The idea came to us as soon as we entered this dark, deep room”explain the two Pailladins, childhood friends, who worked together in addresses in Montpellier.

In ties and jackets, they stage the service like in a movie. Bottles of alcohol hidden in a briefcase or a violin case, shooters in coffee cups, cartridge-shaped glasses: the Trigger Bar has more than one surprise behind its counter. “For example, we offer Moldavian roulette: 5 classic shooters, plus one that we choose according to the customers”. Sweetness too, with gourmet shooters, accompanied by a mini rum or Limoncello baba.

Al Capone’s favorite cocktail

Also on the menu, typical Prohibition cocktails. “Like the Southside (gin, lime, mint), which was Al Capone’s favourite, or the Mary Pickford (rum, pineapple, grenadine), named after a silent film actress”. Classic cocktails and creations by Anthony and Nicolas are also available. “We also have some rarer spirits that allow the customer to create their cocktail”. In addition, there is a wide choice of blond, white and ale beers. What pleasant accompaniment to broadcasts of matches in this bar where we love sport. “We usually open at 5 p.m., but we can open on request at 3 p.m., if a group wants to meet to watch a match”. Quiz and blind test also animate the Trigger.

Trigger Bar, 15 rue du Pila-Saint-Gély. Every day from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
