Montmagny: a woman found dead strangled, her husband placed in police custody

A 44-year-old woman died Sunday evening after an argument with her husband in Montmagny. The latter, aged 55, was taken into custody on Sunday evening. He is suspected of having strangled his wife who could not be revived despite the intervention of the emergency services.

The scene takes place in the family pavilion, located near the neighboring town of Pierrefitte, in Seine-Saint-Denis. It is around 11 p.m. Sunday when the man takes refuge with his neighbors. He seems panicked. He explains that he has just had an argument with his wife and that he assaulted her. He adds that she is not well, that she may be dead.

The neighbors then immediately dial 17 to alert the police. And it is a crew from the Sarcelles police station who arrives on the spot and finds the husband who was waiting for them at his neighbors. He then leads them to his pavilion, leads them to the first floor. There, they discover the body of the wife, unconscious.

The two children aged 3 and 6 were taken care of

The police will then try everything to save the victim, multiplying the gestures of resuscitation. The firefighters, in turn alerted, will take over, then a medical team from Samu du Val-d’Oise. But without success: the death will finally be noted around midnight.

The husband was taken into custody, becoming seriously ill. He would have acknowledged the facts, confident that the couple was in difficulty. The couple’s two children, aged 3 and 6, were taken care of and taken to hospital as a precaution. According to the first elements collected, it seems that they slept upstairs in the bedroom located next to that of the parents. They wouldn’t have heard anything.

A family without history

Val-d’Oise departmental security investigators were seized of the case on Monday morning. They will have to determine the precise circumstances of the death and confirm the thesis of the homicide which seems the most probable. The Pontoise public prosecutor’s office specifies this Monday evening that “several investigations and checks are in progress”.

According to the first information, it is a couple who had not been talked about. The police services have not received any complaint or handrail that could evoke previous facts. Similarly, in Montmagny, nothing suggested that this family could be affected by such a tragedy, the family being considered without history.

According to the collective “Féminicides by companions or ex” which lists murders by spouse, it would be, if confirmed, the first feminicide in Val-d’Oise this year. 54 were recorded until Sunday, in France, 113 in 2021, including 4 in Val-d’Oise, in Arnouville, Champagne-sur-Oise, and Argenteuil, twice.
