Money problems: Norwegian sends four subsidiaries into bankruptcy

The low-cost airline has to send four of its subsidiaries in Denmark and Sweden into bankruptcy. Norwegian hired pilots and flight attendants through them.

The closure of the borders and quarantine restrictions have practically brought the entire aviation industry to a standstill. This is why Norwegian has also discontinued flight operations, but the costs for the crews continued to be incurred, the airline said. The result of this is that four subsidiaries in Denmark and Sweden are sent into bankruptcy.

Norwegian hired pilots and flight attendants through the three Danish and one Swedish company. “Unfortunately, despite the measures that have already been taken to reduce costs, the Board of Directors has no choice but to file for bankruptcy,” Norwegian said in a statement. Specifically, it is about Norwegian Pilot Services Sweden, Norwegian Pilot Services Denmark, Norwegian Cabin Services Denmark and Norwegian Air Resources Denmark and thus a total of 1571 pilots and 3134 flight attendants.

France, Italy and Norway not affected

Now the state pays their wages. Sweden and Denmark are too hesitant about aviation aid, Norwegian added. Around 700 pilots and 1,300 flight attendants in France, Italy and Norway are not affected by the measure.

In order to receive state aid, Norwegian had to submit a rescue plan. The approval of creditors and shareholders is still missing by the end of April. Say no, the airline is finished.
