Monday is World Alzheimer’s Day

World Alzheimer’s Day is Monday 21 September. Unfortunately, there are no meetings this year due to corona.

That is why the municipality of Sittard-Geleen, together with the municipalities of Beek and Stein, is devoting attention to this theme in a different way this year. A series of 6 live radio interviews with experts by experience will start on 20 September. Discussions include an informal caregiver, a daughter of an Alzheimer’s patient and a care volunteer.

Listen in!

The interviews will be broadcast live on the radio program starting today, Sunday 20 September, every Sunday morning around 10:30 am Forum on Sunday through the regional Regional Broadcasting Bie Ós. The broadcasts are:

  • September 20: interview with a care recipient and volunteer from Thuishulpcentrale de Brug;
  • September 27: interview with an informal care consultant and a dementia case manager Natasja Stelten;
  • October 4: interview with daughter and a volunteer;
  • October 11: interview with ao case manager for dementia.

The details for the broadcasts of 18 and 25 October will be announced. You can also watch the broadcasts later listen back via this link.

Awareness

The purpose of these interviews is to give attention to the subject of dementia and to make dementia a topic of discussion. Recognizing symptoms, actually recognizing dementia and then knowing how to act play an important role in this.

Role of the GP

Do you suspect starting dementia, in someone close to you or yourself? Then make an appointment with your doctor. This is the first link for personal questions about (emerging) dementia. The GP can also ‘assign’ a dementia case manager, if necessary.

A dementia-friendly municipality

One in five Dutch people develops dementia. As we age, this number is expected to rise to 550,000 by 2040. This means that more and more residents and organizations in our municipality are faced with dementia. That is why Sittard-Geleen would like to become a dementia-friendly municipality. This is being worked on, together with entrepreneurs, healthcare providers, residents and volunteer organizations. Because everyone should be able to participate in Sittard-Geleen.
