Monaco to organize three “Grands Prix” in one month in 2021

After the cancellation of the 2020 F1 Grand Prix and the Historic Grand Prix, the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM) decided to embark on a logistical challenge in 2021: organize three events in one month, with the E-Prix of Formula E.

The Monaco F1 Grand Prix (May 21-24) was the first event on the 2020 calendar to announce that it would completely give up organizing the race this year due to the crisis and logistical problems posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The cancellation was also logically extended to the 12th Monaco Historic Grand Prix which was to be held from May 8 to 10.

However, this meant that, by virtue of the alternation between the organization of this event bringing together historic and prestigious cars and that of Formula E, it would have been necessary to wait until 2022 to see the next edition of the GP Historique. Faced with the requests of many participants and partners, the ACM however decided to put the small dishes in the big ones from 2021 by organizing all these tests in a few weeks.

“To follow up on the very numerous requests from competitors, partners and spectators to see the holding of the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, the Organizing Committee of the Automobile Club of Monaco – after a feasibility study, internally, then with the agreement of the Monaco government authorities – it is with great pleasure to announce that the 12th edition of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, initially scheduled for May 8 to 10, 2020, will exceptionally take place … from April 23 to 25, 2021 “, can we read in a press release published on Tuesday and entitled “Three Monaco Grands Prix in 2021!”.

The historic race will therefore precede the fourth Monaco E-Prix which will take place on Saturday 8 May and the 78th Monaco Grand Prix of Formula 1 from 20 to 23 May 2021. A “organizational challenge” difficult but entirely achievable according to Christian Tornatore, commissioner general of the Automobile Club of Monaco. “Hosting three events in one month will be a first for all of us at ACM.”

“The logistics part promises to be complex, of course, but not insurmountable! Therefore, we will have to start assembling the circuit earlier than usual, at the end of February, rather than March 15. We will then integrate the technical aspects , on and off the track, that each of the disciplines we host requires. To do this, we rely on the experience and availability of all those involved to achieve our objectives … “

In addition, the 13th edition of the Monaco Historic Grand Prix scheduled for 2022 will also be maintained and will take place from May 13 to 15.
