Molenbeek: Modification of the labor regulations in favor of the wearing of religious symbols

The municipality of Molenbeek could in the future hire civil servants displaying convictional signs. Discussions are underway to modify the work regulations within the administration in this sense, announces RTBF.

The issue of wearing convictive signs has come back to the news after the Constitutional Court considered that the ban on religious signs within the Haute École Francisco Ferrer, managed by the City of Brussels, was not contrary to the Constitution.

In addition to access to education for women wearing the headscarf, the Molenbeek authorities would reassess their access to local public office. They would work for this to modify the work regulations within the administration. This should therefore guarantee non-discrimination on the basis of “age, sexual orientation, marital status, birth, fortune, philosophical belief or conviction, political convictions, union membership, language, current or future state of health, disability, physical or genetic properties and social origin, sex, nationality, race, skin color, ancestry, national or ethnic origin ” .

This is in any case the proposal submitted by the sp.a to the socialist bourgmestre Catherine Moureaux, who does not wish to make comments, indicate our colleagues.
