Mohanlal Reunites with Wrestling Buddies After 50 Years
Malayalam cinema icon Mohanlal recently met with two of his old wrestling friends, VN Prasood and P Krishnakumar, almost 50 years after they trained and competed together.
The trio first connected in 1975 when Mohanlal joined MG College, Thiruvananthapuram. They became close while wrestling at Veera Kerala Gymkhana and Central Stadium, Vanchiyoor.
Before his acting career took off, Mohanlal was a successful wrestler himself, competing in the 74 kg category. He won championships at MG College, the Inter-University Championship, and the State Championship in Kannur. Prasood served as his coach during this time, while Krishnakumar competed in the 52 kg category and Prasood in the 48 kg division.
While Mohanlal became a celebrated actor, his friends remained dedicated to wrestling. Prasood eventually became the Secretary General of the National Wrestling Federation (the first Malayali to hold the position), and Krishnakumar became a trainer and technical officer with the Sports Council.
Their connection to wrestling even extended to Mohanlal’s film career. In the 2002 film ‘Chathurangam’, where Mohanlal played a wrestling champion, Prasood trained him for the role and even appeared in the film as a coach.
The friends recently reunited in Thiruvananthapuram, reminiscing about their shared past and the sport that brought them together.
