He assured that in the period of “India” leadership in the G20 “we will encourage an honest dialogue between the most powerful countries – on reducing the risks associated with weapons of mass destruction and on strengthening global security”.

Modi writes that “Throughout history, humanity has lived in want: we have struggled for limited resources because survival depended on denying them to others, and confrontation and competition (between ideas, ideologies and identities) have become the norm” .

The Indian leader complains that “we remain trapped in the same zero-sum mentality even today”.

“We see it when countries compete for land or resources. We see it when essential supplies are weaponized. We see it when vaccines are hoarded by the few while billions remain vulnerable,” he wrote of examples.

Modi stressed that “a universal sense of unity” will be promoted under India’s presidency of the G20, as now “we have the means to produce enough and meet the basic needs of all people around the world”.

Furthermore, he wrote, “we will seek to depoliticise the global supply of food, fertilizer and medical supplies so that geopolitical tensions do not lead to humanitarian crises.”

The Indian prime minister stressed that the greatest challenges of our time – climate change, terrorism and the pandemic – “can be solved not by fighting with each other, but by acting together”.
