Moderna vaccine is 100% effective in severe cases

After two weeks of good news about vaccine effectiveness, it is now time for pharmacists to apply for emergency clearance. According to some experts, vaccination may even start before 2021, because the results of these vaccines guarantee good effectiveness.

According to the latest information, Moderna’s vaccine is 100% effective in severe cases.

The American drugmaker announced on Monday that the final results of Covid-19 vaccine tests confirm 94 percent overall effectiveness and 100 percent in severe cases. There has not yet been a record of any serious illness developed as a result of this immunization. The company started the approval process with European and North American entities, reveals RTP.

According to the statement from the modern pharmaceutical company, the final results of the tests on the vaccine against COVID-19 prove an efficacy of 94.1 percent, with effectiveness reaching 100 percent when it comes to serious cases. The tests in question included 196 participants with confirmed cases of COVID-19 disease, including 30 severe cases. Moderna asks for Emergency Authorization for the vaccine

Moderna will still apply today for emergency authorization from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the USA. In the coming days, Moderna intends to proceed with the registration procedure with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Despite rapid advances, this vaccine is expected to reach the North American market first. Moderna received $ 2.48 billion from federal funds from the United States as part of the Trump Administration's Operation Warp Spped. Moderna guarantees that it will manufacture between 500 million and 1 billion doses globally during the next year. Compared to the vaccine of Pfizer, that of Moderna does not need very low temperatures to be stored. However, it is more expensive.

According to some information, the price of vaccines will be:

  • Pfizer: 17 euros per dose (2 doses required)
  • Modern: 27 to 31 euros (2 doses required)
  • Astrazeneca: 3 to 4 euros (2 doses required)
  • Johnson & Johnson: 8.5 euros (1 dose)
  • Vacina Sputnik V: 8 euros (2 doses)
