The CEO of the pharmaceutical company Moderna predicts that existing vaccines may be much less effective in dealing with variant of Omicron on coronavirus compared to earlier strains, reports Reuters.
Stefan Bansel also warned that it will take months, before pharmaceutical companies can produce large quantities of updated doses for the new variant of the virus.
He was adamant that the effectiveness of the preparations will not be the same as in the delta variant.

Bansel pointed out that the large number of Omicron mutations on the spike protein that the virus uses to infect human cells, and the rapid spread of the strain in South Africa, suggest that current vaccines may need to be modified next year.
