“Modern” vaccine against Covid-19 in the US has received full approval / Article

The “modern” vaccine was approved more than a year ago, and tens of millions of Americans have received the vaccine since then.

The approval of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) means that the agency has completed a scrupulous and time-consuming study of the Moderna vaccine, which has previously been performed on dozens of other well-known vaccines.

The decision was prompted by real-world evidence after injecting more than 200 million doses of the vaccine in the United States since the FDA authorized the vaccine in December 2020.

The FDA gave full approval to the Pfizer vaccine in August.

Public health experts hoped the regulator’s decision on full approval would boost public confidence in vaccination. However, no significant increase in vaccination was observed after approval of Pfizer.

In the United States, more than 211 million people, or 63% of the population, have been fully vaccinated. About 86 million have received a maintenance dose.

The culmination of vaccination rates was last spring, when more than three million people were vaccinated every day. At present, they are less than 750,000 people a day.

Vaccination rates increased briefly in December following reports of the spread of the omicron virus, but then slowed again.
