Modena inaugurates the Casa della Salute Vecchi: “The first of a long series”

Ribbon cutting today, 22 September, for the first Casa della Salute in Modena, in the presence of the President of the Emilia-Romagna Region Stefano Bonaccini and the Mayor Gian Carlo Muzzarelli alongside the General Manager of the Modena Local Health Authority Antonio Brambilla.

Named after Professor Gian Paolo Vecchi – a doctor from Modena and full professor of Geriatrics at the University of Modena -, it will be a new point of reference for the health of the people of Modena and will constitute an important territorial health center serving, in particular, the entire area north of the city.

Structure, the fourteenth Casa della Salute in the province of Modena, addresses the multiple welfare needs of citizens by offering care based on the needs of all age groups of the population, from primary prevention to assistance for fragile and chronic patients. Visibility, accessibility and multi-functionality are the keywords of a place that has extended opening hoursand offers broad types of response. In fact, there are over 50 clinics present, divided over four floors and overlooking a large and bright open space central designed to welcome and “embrace” the citizens who enter the building.

The Casa della Salute will work at full capacity – and many have already been in service since 17 September – about 80 people including doctors, nurses, midwives, psychologists, speech therapists, psychiatric rehabilitation therapists, educators, physiotherapists, cardiology technicians, administrative staff , but also social workers of the Municipality of Modena and volunteers of the associations that collaborate with the USL company. The Casa della Salute in Modena will in fact also be a place to develop new participatory paths, which will go beyond socio-health integration, opening up to the Community.

β€œAn avant-garde facility from all points of view, not least the environmental one; a place of care, listening and participation, but not only; a house, in fact, beautiful, welcoming, functional, where families and citizens, children, the elderly, chronic and frail patients, will be able to find high-level assistance, from prevention to specialized care, thanks to the multi-professional teams present – underlined the president of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Stefano Bonaccini -. Because this are the Houses of Health in Emilia-Romagna, places of assistance, listening and care that the Region has been supporting for years with great conviction, investing planning and financial energy to strengthen their identity and potential. And the numbers prove us right, because they confirm that, where the Health Houses are present – and we are talking about 120 in the whole region, tripled in the last nine years – there have been over 6 thousand fewer visits to the emergency room for inappropriate reasons, i hospital admissions for pathologies that can be treated in an outpatient clinic and home care services have increased. We therefore continue to invest – added the president – to modernize existing hospitals, build new ones where necessary, but also to extend and strengthen the network of territorial assistance, to make it ever closer to the needs, and to the home, of citizens ” .

After recalling how the health emergency has rediscovered the value of public health, the mayor Gian Carlo Muzzarelli underlined the importance of strengthening local healthcare, highlighting how the new structure is located “in a truly strategic position for the city, in front of Porta Nord, access to the railway station and the city center, and in the heart of the district that the Project Suburbs are regenerating from an urban and social point of view ”. The mayor also referred to the other health houses planned in the city (the construction of the one in the historic center has begun at the former Estense Hospital) and to the figure of Professor Vecchi, who has always been attentive “to the quality of life times and prevention “.

“It is with great satisfaction that today we inaugurate this facility, despite the tiring months to which the pandemic has subjected all of our healthcare – said DG Ausl Antonio Brambilla -. The collaboration that we have established at the local level during the emergency finds one of the best expressions in the Case della Salute: here a plurality of health professionals, the social world and volunteering work side by side, to build a new health model capable of networking to be closer to our citizens, to listen to them and take care of everyone’s health needs globally. The Health Homes are a fundamental space for integration, to guarantee the citizens of Modena not only the most appropriate treatment path, but continuous accompaniment in the different phases of life and age groups, in a close, accessible, welcoming place as they show. also the architectural choices. I wish good luck to all our professionals and to the operators of the Municipality of Modena who will work here – he concluded – hoping that the Casa della Salute in Modena will become, day after day, a real Community House ”.

The project and the works were financed with funds from the State and the Emilia-Romagna Region, (AP23RER intervention pursuant to art.20 L67 / 88) and is part of the program agreement between the Local Health Authority and the Municipality of Modena for the definition of the offices for health services. The total investment is 5 million and 800 thousand euros, to which 1 million and 600 thousand euros had been added for the purchase of the land that is now owned by the Ausl (for a total of 7 million and 400 thousand euros).
