After a blunder against Cologne, Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, who moved to Bavaria in the summer, is mocked by his own fans. On Tuesday, the 23-year-old now faces the substitute bank.

FC Schalke 04 is on a downward slide. After last five games in the championship without a win, they suffered a bitter 0-3 defeat against Cologne on Saturday and the next setback. According to the Schalke fans, the scapegoat is quickly found. Namely in goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, who will migrate to the big FC Bayern in the summer.

The 23-year-old looks very bad in the third goal in the 75th minute and, after completing Florian Kainz, actually pushes the ball through his legs into his own goal. There is no question that Schalke would have lost the game without Nübel’s mistake. Nevertheless, loud “Nübel out” calls can then be heard from the guest fan block. In addition, the Schalke team up with the Cologne fan camp and mockingly applaud every time Nübel hits the ball.

Tears at Nübel

After the final whistle, Nübel, with tears in his eyes, was persuaded by his teammates to still stand in front of the curve. This is obviously of little value to the accompanying traveler. With renewed calls out, the fans make it clear that a goalkeeper change to Markus Schubert, who is two years younger, is inevitable for them.

Schalke sports director Jochen Schneider can only shake his head at the reaction from his own fans: «Ten years ago, the topic of Robert Enke was so big – and we pour a bit of malice on a 23-year-old boy who makes a mistake. I can not understand.” Midfielder Alessandro Schöpf also supports the young goalkeeper: «I think it’s a shame how the fans react. Alex is only human and makes mistakes. We all stand by him and know what we have in him. »
