Sony has followed developments closely after the outbreak of the novel corona virus, for which the WHO (World Health Organization) declared an international emergency on January 30, 2020.
Because we attach great importance to the safety and well-being of our customers, partners, media and employees, we made the difficult decision to withdraw from the exhibition and participation in the MWC 2020 in Barcelona, Spain.
The Sony press conference will instead take place on February 24, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. (CET) as a video via our official Xperia YouTube channel to present our new products.
Sony thanks everyone for their understanding and continued support in these challenging times.
Fair should take place
The organizer of MWC 2020, GMSA, announced at the weekend that the fair would go ahead as usual, but that the corona virus would have further consequences. Hubai province travelers will be denied access to the event, and all visitors must demonstrate that they were no longer in China two weeks before the MWC began. This should be documented via a passport stamp and a health certificate, according to the GSMA.
Temperature measurements are also to be carried out on the exhibition site, and visitors to the exhibition would have to certify that they had not come into contact with any infected person – how should you know? for this reason alone, it is questionable how you want to implement these plans.
