New York City FC delivered an absolutely dominant performance at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, outscoring Orlando City SC by a score of 5-0.
The locals, however, took a long time to get started. Aside from Maxi Moralez’s off-frame shot in the 14th minute, the New Yorkers had hardly threatened in the first twenty minutes.
But the pace of the match changed shortly before the half, starting with Jesus Medina’s goal in the 40th minute.
Returning from the locker room, it was the devastation for Orlando (7-4-4), who conceded goals in the 53rd, 65th, 79th and 82nd minutes, courtesy of Ismael Tajouri-Shradi, Moralez, Malte Amundsen and Valentin Castellanos.
With this landslide victory, the NYCFC (7-5-2) moved closer to two points from the Florida club, third in the standings in the East.
A late goal saves the Union
The Philadelphia Union secured a point thanks to a late net in front of Inter Miami. The match ended in a draw after Kacper Przybylko’s goal with less than 20 minutes to go.
It was already his sixth goal of the campaign. He responded to the success of Robbie Anderson who opened the brand for Miami.
Kamara overthrows the Red Bulls
In a meeting between rivals DC United and the New York Red Bulls, DC won 1-0.
Ola Kamara gave his team the victory with a goal in the first half. Julian Gressel did the work on the streak by collecting the ball. He then handed it over to his teammate who had no difficulty finding the back of the net.
The locals had a great opportunity at the 40e minute to double the bet, but Carlos Coronel pushed back the head of Drew Skundrich.
Seattle suffers first setback at home
Kansas City Sporting made a strong statement in their quest for the first in the West with a 3-1 road win over the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field.
Johnny Russell opened the scoring by hitting the target with a beautiful free throw in the 31st minute.
Eleven minutes later, Danniel Salloi doubled the lead on a counterattack, scoring his ninth goal of the year. Salloi is Sporting’s leader in this area.
In the second half, backup Cameron Duke netted his first career MLS goal.
Seattle (9-2-5) therefore lost a first home game this season, a week after losing its immaculate record.
