The Orlando City SC announced on Friday that it had agreed to the terms of an extension of contract with Canadian striker Tesho Akindele.

The 28-year-old player was to reach independence at the end of the 2021 season. The Lions will therefore be able to count on his services beyond this year since this new agreement includes options for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Akindele, who joined FC Dallas in 2019, scored 10 goals in his first Florida campaign, matching his personal best record set in his very first steps in Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2014. This performance earned him the title of Recruit of the Year.

“We are very excited that Tesho will continue with us in Orlando,” said Luis Muzzi, president of soccer team operations. He has shown a lot of leadership on and off the field since his arrival, in addition to his innate talent as a goal scorer. Tesho is a very important part of our workforce and a role model for young people. ”

In his MLS career, the Alberta native took part in 164 games, scoring 34 goals and delivering 10 assists. He also had the chance to represent Canada on the international stage by finding the back of the net three times in 17 games with the senior team.
