Mixer: Phil Spencer says he has no regrets – News

On July 22, Mixer will close its doors permanently. Partner streamers can take over the management of Facebook Gaming while retaining their status, or terminate their contract to go stream elsewhere, like Ninja.

This decision came by surprise, but the platform never succeeded in competing with Twitch, YouTube or even Facebook, and this despite the arrivals of Ninja and Shroud against very attractive sums. Questioned by GamesIndustry, the boss of Microsoft’s Xbox branch, Phil Spencer, spoke on the subject. He obviously admits that he is disappointed, but specifies that he has no regrets.

It is obviously a disappointment when you try to develop something on a scale that you need, and you do not succeed. I have no regrets. You make decisions with the best information you have at any given time, you make every effort, and we are in a creative industry. We are in a hit-driven industry. And if we get into a spirit where we are afraid of not achieving what we are trying to achieve as an organization … I think it is fundamental for us not to be afraid of trying things that might not work. This is the art of playing video games and creating game platforms.

It also bounces back to highlight other Microsoft services and technologies, not forgetting to mention xCloud, which has been under test for many months:

(…) We have Azure as a cloud and we can build a cloud gaming platform with xCloud. Xbox Live has nearly 100 million players per month, which are growing on all platforms, we see people coming from iOS, Android, we are on Switch now, we are on PC, and we are obviously on Xbox. We see that the community continues to grow.

An important speech by Phil Spence, who reminds at the end of the interview that the console market represents around 200 million machines, and that many regions of the world play differently. By developing its services on multiple supports, Microsoft Xbox thus hopes to be able to impose itself everywhere in the world by adapting to the uses.
