(CNN) – The production of the next film “Mission: Impossible” was suspended due to the worldwide outbreak of Coronavirus.
A three-week shoot was scheduled in Venice, Italy, but the country has had a recent increase in coronavirus cases. The epicenter of the outbreak is in northern Italy, and the number of confirmed cases reached at least 229 on Monday.

“Due to great caution for the safety and well-being of our cast and crew, and the efforts of the local Venetian government to stop public meetings in response to the threat of the coronavirus, we are altering the production plan for our three weeks of filming. in Venice, the first scheduled stage of an extensive production for Mission: Impossible 7, ”a spokesman for Paramount, the studio behind the franchise, told The Hollywood Reporter.
“During this parenthesis we want to take into account the concerns of the team and we are allowing them to return home until production begins. We will continue to monitor this situation and continue to work with health and government officials as it evolves. ”
A Paramount representative was not immediately available for comment.
Tom Cruise, who reportedly had not yet landed in Italy, again stars in the franchise as agent Ethan Hunt.

The next “Mission: Impossible” movie is scheduled to premiere on July 23, 2021.
