A convicted murderer is missing from a Scott County, Indiana recovery home, leaving neighbors concerned and demanding answers. Authorities are searching for 44-year-old Robert Caldwell, who disappeared after reportedly residing at the home since February, though neighbors were unaware of his presence untill his absence was noted.
Caldwell was first reported missing in September, but dialogue with those monitoring his recovery has since ceased, raising alarms. His escape highlights potential gaps in the monitoring of individuals with violent criminal histories participating in recovery programs and has prompted questions from residents about safety protocols. The Scott County Sheriff’s Department is leading the search, urging anyone with facts to contact them or 911.
Neighbors expressed shock upon learning Caldwell’s identity and length of stay. “In fact, they saeid he’d been here since February. We were totally unaware of it until he ended up missing,” said neighbor Heacock.
Caldwell was convicted of murder and his unexplained disappearance poses a risk to the community. Authorities have not released details regarding the nature of Caldwell’s recovery programme or the level of supervision he was under.
Anyone with information regarding Caldwell’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Scottsburg Police Department at 812-752-4462.
