Missing explosives at the KSK are identical to those found in Saxony

At the beginning of May, explosives were discovered in a KSK soldier’s weapon hiding place. It is the same substance that had disappeared from the elite unit’s camps. A large part remains undetected.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the 62 kilograms of explosives missing from the stocks of the Special Forces Command (KSK) are exclusively PETN (pentaerythrityl tetranitrate). The same substance had also been found in a soldier who had been imprisoned in northern Saxony.

Explosives and Nazi material found

“The determination of the sub-inventory is to be seen as a preliminary result, which resulted from a comparison between the actual inventory on site and the target inventory in the logistic booking system”, the Ministry of Defense replied to a written question from the domestic politician Martina Renner (left ), which is available to the German Press Agency. PETN powder is used, for example, in hand grenades or as a component of the Semtex plastic explosive.

In mid-May, two kilograms of PETN were discovered in a weapon hiding place of a 45-year-old soldier from the Bundeswehr elite unit KSK in Collm. At the time of the raid, the police also found an SS song book and stickers with Nazi motifs. The man who had set up the secret weapons depot on his private property had been a participant in the party for the boss of the second company in 2017, which triggered the right-wing extremism affair at the KSK. At the celebration, pig’s heads were thrown, right skirts were heard and the Hitler salute was shown.

The search for residual explosives continues

A general inventory should clarify the whereabouts of the missing explosives, which will be completed by the beginning of next year, the ministry replied. The “probation period” for the KSK ends earlier – on October 31. Then wants Secretary of Defense Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (CDU) decide whether the reform steps taken up to that point are sufficient or whether the special command will be completely dissolved.

“The central questions for the Bundeswehr and the law enforcement authorities are: Where are the remaining 60 kg of this highly dangerous explosive? What has been done to find it?” Said Renner. The clarification will be the measure of the extent to which the minister is interested in the consequences of the KSK scandal “and whether the investigative authorities actually want to illuminate or smash the right-wing structures”.
