Minsa approved the application of the third dose of vaccine against COVID-19 | nndc | PERU

The Minister of Health, Hernando Cevallos, revealed that his sector approved the application of a third dose in Peru, which in the first instance will be placed in first-line health personnel, over 65 years of age and people with comorbidity.

According to the official, only the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines would be applied as a booster, but not those of Sinopharm.

“We have approved the application of a third dose to raise the defenses of citizens, starting with the first line of the health sector, those over 65 years of age and people with comorbidity”, Said Minister Hernando Cevallos for RPP.

The official explained that in the case of Sinopharm “There is not enough evidence that a third application is the most convenient … but this has given us excellent results in terms of mortality rates”.

Cevallos contextualized that international experiences in the use of Pfizer (RNA) and AstraZeneca (adenovirus) vaccines do have a record of application as reinforcements in other countries. “And this gives them a small advantage, until we have evidence with Sinopharm so that it is applied (third dose) in our country “he added.

He also indicated that they are waiting for the arrival of more vaccines to be able to lower the age range to be vaccinated. He added that it is expected to continue with the vaccination after 12 years.

“Now it is necessary to close the gap for adults who are not vaccinated or must complete their second dose”, he pointed.
