Minor health problems: Montrealers urged to avoid emergencies

The CIUSSS de Montréal invite those who are struggling with minor health problems to opt for medical clinics rather than emergencies.

Montreal emergency rooms currently have high occupancy rates, warn the five Montreal health establishments in a press release released on Tuesday.

The average occupancy rate for emergencies in the metropolis is indeed 117% on Tuesday evening, according to Health Index data.

The Center hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM), Hôpital Santa Cabrini and Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur, for example, have an occupancy rate of 137%.

At the Verdun Hospital, the Lakeshore General Hospital and the Royal-Victoria Hospital, the emergency room occupancy rate exceeds 150%.

In order to avoid further overcrowding emergencies, the CIUSSS therefore suggest that patients go to walk-in clinics.

“Several Montreal medical clinics currently offer time slots for walk-in medical appointments,” they said in a press release.

“It is important to remind the population that even during a pandemic, it is possible to consult a health or social services professional the same day or the next day without going to an emergency room”, add the establishments. health.
