Two quick first-half goals helped Minnesota United FC defeat the San Jose Earthquakes by a 4-1 score on Saturday night in Orlando to secure their place in the semifinals of the Major return tournament. League Soccer (MLS).

Early in the game, Minnesota scored two goals in one minute. Robin Lod first put the needle on in the 20th minute of play, recovering a pass from Jose Aja’s header just in front of the Earthquakes’ net. Jacori Hayes doubled the lead of his team by grabbing a free ball in the rectangle of goalkeeper Daniel Vega.

Having faced a total of 13 shots on target, the latter was not idle and managed to keep his team in the game for much of the meeting.

Magnus Eriksson gave the Earthquakes hope by hitting the target on a penalty shot early in the second half. But Luis Amarilla responded six minutes later in a one-on-one descent into opposing territory.

Marlon Hairston sealed the match in the 86th minute, deflecting a pass from Hassani Dotson behind Vega.

In front of the winners’ net, Tyler Miller repelled three of the four shots on target he faced.

Minnesota will meet Orlando City SC in the tournament semifinals on Thursday. The home side surprised Los Angeles FC in the quarter-finals on Friday.
