In the wake of Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards, the Wolves jump at the throat of the Mavs and start the meeting on a 16-3! While Luka Doncic misses his first four shots, it is 12 points from Kristaps Porzingis and four award-winning shots from Latvia and Maxi Kleber that allow Dallas to pick up the score despite the 25 points of the duo Towns – Edwards (33-30).
Juancho Hernangomez and Naz Reid keep Minnesota in front of the score but two long distance shots from Tim Hardaway Jr launch a 9-0 Mavs who take the advantage for the first time in the game (51-46). Towns responds but Luka Doncic, so far silent, scores five points in the last two minutes of half-time to send his team to the locker room with one point ahead (56-55).
Kristaps Porzingis and Dallas accelerate
The Wolves start this time the third quarter time with a 7-0 but the address of Kristaps Porzingis and Dorian Finney-Smith allow Dallas to respond with an 11-0 (67-62). Minnesota, however, struggles against the Texas defense. Rick Carlisle’s men keep their opponent at 7 of 20 on shots in the period and a 13-4 allows them to make the difference (80-69). Porzingis and Brunson then add a layer to finish the quarter with a bang and relegate the Wolves to -15 (88-73).
While Anthony Edwards, author of 18 points in this last period, tries to bring back his own, the defense of Minnesota offers no resistance to Dallas. It does not take more to Luka Doncic, who finally sets the sights, to score eight points in a row and put the Wolves at -23 (111-88). Carlisle can then afford to open his bench to end up coasting. The Mavs now have 14 wins in their last 19 games and look more and more like the team we expected at the start of the season.
