Minneapolis police shoot black man dead, triggering rioting demonstrations again page all

MINNEAPOLIS, KOMPAS.com – Demonstrations broke out again in Minneapolis, United States (US), on Sunday night (11/4/2021) after police shot dead a black man on the outskirts of the city.

Hundreds of people gathered outside the police station in Brooklyn Center, northwest Minneapolis.

Police then fired tear gas and stun grenades at the demonstrators, according to journalists AFP at the scene.

The victim who was shot by the police was named Daunte Wright (20). He had called his mother that he was arrested by the police.

Daunte’s mother, Katie Wright, then spoke in front of a crowd on Sunday night, she heard police telling her son to put down the cell phone, then one of the officers hung up the call.

It wasn’t long before Daunte Wright was shot, according to her boyfriend’s testimony.

The Minnesota Criminal Detention Bureau confirms to AFPThey are currently investigating the Brooklyn Center shooting incident, but have not identified the victim.

According to a statement from the Brooklyn Center Police Department, police stopped a driver for violating a traffic sign.

When they find the offender has an arrest warrant, they try to arrest him.

The offender then returned to his car, and one of the policemen fired his gun. The victim died at the scene.

A female passenger in the car sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, said the statement, which did not identify the woman.

Brooklyn City Mayor Mike Elliott called the shooting tragic.

“We ask that the protesters remain peaceful and peaceful protesters will not be subjected to violence,” he wrote on Twitter.

But the clashes occurred after several hundred demonstrators were fired on by tear gas and stun grenades outside Brooklyn Police Headquarters.
