Ministry of Transportation seeks to declare an air emergency • La Nación

Guillermo Reyes, Minister of Transportation, indicated that he will seek to declare an air emergency in the country, this after the airlines Ultra Air and Viva Air ceased their operations, affecting thousands of people.

The Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Reyes, announced from Ibagué that he will make the proposal to declare an air emergency in the territories affected by the cessation of operations of Ultra Air and Viva Air.

Reyes maintained that the alternative will be presented at a council of ministers to be held next Tuesday, meanwhile, he affirmed that affected travelers will continue to be supported with National Government planes and some airlines.

“We are going to carry out a declaration of an air emergency and in particular for these territories such as the Archipelago where tourism has been significantly reduced due to lack of air capacity,” Reyes said.

Reyes said that the council of ministers where the proposal will be presented will be held next Tuesday in Bajo Cauca. “We are working actively, which is why the president made use of his plane and Air Force planes to evacuate the population, but also with Avianca, Latam, Wingo, Satena, among others, we can take Colombians to their destinations,” said the official of the National Government.

What does the declaration of emergency mean?

“Declare zones of social interest, so that we can grant subsidies and other benefits in the area operation and air tickets”, pointed out the Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Reyes.
