The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications becomes a major mobile phone company

On the 22nd the Ministry of the Interior and Communications issued an administrative guide to the main mobile phone companies, asking them to specify the price of each device when they sell smartphones. Don’t misunderstand that a customer can buy a terminal at a discounted price without signing a line contract, but can only receive a big discount when buying a set with one line. On the 21st, a group of ministry experts drafted a report asking for clarification on prices.
The targets are NTT Docomo, KDDI (au), Okinawa Cellular Phone, Softbank and Rakuten Mobile. It also requested a report on the status of efforts and future policies by 21 October.
Laws and regulations limit the discount to 22,000 yen including tax when purchasing a terminal and entering into a line-as-a-set contract.
