Until now, the Minister of Health, Jorge López, has not had the strength to accept that they made a huge mistake by applying doses of 100 micrograms in the booster vaccines against COVID-19, when researchers from the Moderna laboratory itself have explained that the measure to use should have been 50 micrograms.
Not only that, he also saw the need to elaborate cantinflesque arguments at Monday’s conference to try to justify such a grotesque blunder. Jorge Gonzales Zamora, infectious disease doctor, professor at the University of Miami and researcher at Moderna, was, on the contrary, very clear: “The booster dose is 50 micrograms. If 100 were applied, you have to accept the mistake and monitor all the people who received those doses.”
The central problem is that this minister, who was the second in command of the outraged Hernán Condori – and also a man of Vladimir Cerrón – exposes Peruvians with his lack of knowledge, experience and notorious professional shortcomings to surround himself with technicians who, instead They do know the trade. And it puts us at risk not only with the adverse effects that these extra doses of Moderna have been generating in some doctors and people with comorbidities, but also, by the way, it discredits the immunization program as an essential strategy to end the pandemic, because negligence of this type tend to affect public confidence in vaccines.
Although the Executive has lost all credibility before the country, the portfolio in charge of ensuring public health should be free from political distribution, since we are talking about a basic, core service, which until the arrival of this government was being fought with great professionalism against the pest.
This piece of paper from the Minsa should immediately make Minister López’s head spin, since vaccination campaigns cannot be affected by such dangerous disrepute. Vaccines are the only thing that protects us from the virus.
But the person responsible for everything, once again, is President Castillo, having given Cerrón absolute control of the Ministry of Health, as well as that of Energy and Mines, so that he can do and undo in those sectors, subjecting them to the leadership of people who not even in their region have they stood out. That minister must go to his house.
