Ministry of Health Called New HIV Cases Decreased During the Pandemic, Why?

In the Warning online conference World AIDS Day, Director of Prevention and Control of Direct Communicable Diseases of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that the findings of HIV cases during the pandemic decreased.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, the findings of new HIV cases in 2020 until the end of November or during the COVID-19 pandemic decreased compared to 2019 which reached 52 thousand cases.

Nadia said the decline in finding new HIV cases in the community decreased by almost 40 percent to 32 thousand cases this year.

“Last year we found 52 thousand cases, this year it has decreased considerably to 32 thousand,” said Nadia.

Nadia revealed that during the pandemic, community visits to health facilities had also decreased relatively. So that the finding of new HIV cases also indicates a downward trend.

In fact, continued Nadia, the discovery of HIV cases in the community is important so that people who suffer from this infectious disease can be recognized immediately and can get treatment quickly so that HIV does not worsen into AIDS, whose health conditions are getting worse.

The Ministry of Health has a program to find 90 percent of HIV status, followed by 90 percent of people with HIV getting ARV treatment, so that 90 percent of the virus in society is suppressed and cannot transmit to other people.
