All elements of identity carry symbolism and encoded meanings, the main of which, the single slogan of the Crimean platform, reads: “Crimea is Ukraine: stronger together.”
“Crimea keeps the memory of the antiquity of the democracy invented by the Greeks, which has become one of the main values of the world community. This is precisely what is reflected in the logo of the Crimean platform: the pillars of democracy kept by Chersonesos, and the bird is a symbol of freedom and peace,” said the first deputy head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Emine Dzhaparova.
It is noted that together these symbols are combined into the outlines of both the Crimean Tatar tamga and the Ukrainian trident.
“Ukraine is a part of European civilization, shares the values of freedom, peace and mutual respect. The synergy of the colors of the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar flags becomes an analogy to the summit itself, where joining efforts makes us stronger on the way to de-occupation of Crimea,” the Foreign Ministry added.
Russia annexed Crimea after illegal referendum on March 16, 2014… The accession of the peninsula to the Russian Federation is not recognized by Ukraine and most countries of the world.
The Crimean Platform is a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to improve the effectiveness of the international response to the occupation of Crimea, increase pressure on Russia, prevent human rights violations and protect victims of the occupation regime. The main goal of the platform is the de-occupation of Crimea. It is assumed that the platform will operate at several levels: heads of state and government, foreign ministers, in the dimension of inter-parliamentary cooperation, in the format of an expert network.
Officially, the activities of the Crimean Platform will begin at the inaugural summit on 23 August. It is planned adopt a document called “Crimean Charter”who will condemn Russia’s policy towards the occupied Crimea.
On August 19, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced that participation in the summit confirmed by 44 countries and organizations… At the level of presidents and heads of government, 13 countries will be represented, and there will also be President of the European Council Charles Michel. Kuleba said that, regardless of the level of representation, the countries participating in the summit become the founders of the Crimean platform.
August 20 participation in the summit confirmed by Iceland, the number of participants increased to 45.
In the work of the platform NATO Deputy Secretary General will take part.
Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, announced on August 20 that due to pressure from Russia, one of the countries, which had previously confirmed participation in the summit, refused it.
At the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called “illegitimate” Ukraine’s attempts to return the Crimea occupied by Russia, in particular with the help of the Crimean Platform initiative.
