Minister Verlinden bounces back about Tomorrowland: “Burg… (Boom)

Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) finds it unjust that Boom and Rumst refer to the lack of a ministerial decision as an argument not to let Tomorrowland go ahead. She acknowledges that the ministerial decree is now only valid until June 30, but indicates that a new one will be drawn up on Friday, as planned. Furthermore, it is entirely up to the local authorities themselves to decide on events.

“The Consultation Committee of June 4, 2021 has decided to organize large-scale events with a maximum of 75,000 visitors from August 13. Public Health is working with the corona commissariat and the federal states on a cooperation agreement to help local authorities and organizers to organize this in a safe way,” said Verlinden.

“However, the final decision on whether or not to allow events to take place rests with the local authorities. They are responsible for organizing law enforcement and are best placed to assess the local situation. There is no ground for refusal in the ministerial decree today, as this decree is valid until 30 June. A Consultation Committee will take place on Friday, after which a new ministerial decree will be drawn up. The lack of a ministerial decision as a ground for refusal to admit an event at the end of August therefore seems a strange argument.” (ie)
