Some sectors are reluctant to hire foreign labor, such as IT departments, for example. However, the economic world had reported problems and red tape. To the point that companies sometimes have to wait more than four months to get a decision. To remedy this, the “long-stay” service of the Immigration Office will receive 20 additional agents. This should cut the processing time by half.
The procedure has also been adapted. Since the beginning of February, the Office has had to prepare fewer documents and can thus absorb more files. Another improvement relates to extension files. The permit is in principle valid for a maximum of 12 months. Foreign workers who have asked for an extension of their permit will be able to continue working as long as they have the Region’s agreement for the work component. So far, they have found themselves in a kind of legal uncertainty and have had to temporarily stop working.
Thanks to this facelift of the procedure for obtaining the single permit, companies wishing to bring a foreign worker to Belgium will be more quickly established.
