Minister of Health and Social Services Addresses Increase in Acute Respiratory Infections at National Health System Plenary Session

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Nabila Benzina, accompanied by the general director of Health and Consumer Affairs, Rebeca Benarroch, participated this Monday in the Plenary Session of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (SNS), convened electronically to analyze the increase produced in acute respiratory infections.

Regarding this upward trend at the national level, and although, as the counselor has highlighted in her intervention, the incidence in Ceuta is not one of the worst in Spain, there has been a “significant” rebound in cases, both in relative to flu and COVID-19, which has in turn led to an increase in the number of hospitalizations, which in the case of Ceuta have an aggravating component, such as the shortage of doctors.

Precisely, the member of the City Government has taken advantage of her participation in this forum to request an audience with the Minister of Health with the aim of personally conveying to her the pressing deficiencies that Ceuta suffers in healthcare matters, which require, as has been The counselor reiterated, an “effective” solution in this regard.

Aside from this express request, the counselor has shown her support for the measures proposed by the Ministry of Health to be previously analyzed by technicians, both in the Alert Presentation and in the Public Health Commission.

Likewise, Benzina has insisted on the need to design a “powerful” vaccination campaign in order to increase coverage, especially in the most vulnerable groups. In this regard, the head of Health recalled that the City maintains a vaccination point that operates from Monday to Friday.
