Minedu: COVID vaccination will not be mandatory for teachers to return to classes | PERU

The Minister of Education said that vaccination against COVID-19 will be made mandatory as an essential requirement for teachers and administrative staff to return to schools, within the framework of the resumption of face-to-face classes.

Rosendo Serna said that at least 95% of the educational community has received the COVID vaccine. He also indicated that it is easy to identify teachers or part of the staff who have not yet been immunized.

I do not consider that it is necessary to indicate the obligatory nature, but that it is necessary to talk with the teachers. It is easy to identify in an educational institution who has not been vaccinated, to talk, dialogue, convince and make (the teacher) get vaccinated for the students’ own safety”, he referred in dialogue with Successful.

He recalled that the presentation of the vaccination card is a requirement to enter public and private establishments, so he was confident that teachers are aware of that rule and will go to the vaccination centers to complete their vaccination schedule.

[¿Van a pedir que los docentes estén vacunados para trabajar?] The norm indicates that the card with the two doses must be shown to enter an establishment, so teachers must understand that the requirement to enter the school is the vaccination card”, he indicated.

He noted that more than S / 145 million have been allocated to the country’s UGELs for the acquisition and distribution of masks for teachers, students and administrative staff.

In addition, he said that S / 295 million have been allocated for the maintenance of school premises and another S / 123 million for the acquisition of hygiene kits. Said amounts of money have been distributed and from this Monday they will be deposited in the accounts of the directors of the schools.

Starting today, the budget corresponding to the maintenance of school premises and hygiene kits will be included in the directors’ accounts. […] The recommendation is that they buy in places where the costs are reasonable”, he pointed out.
