Milwaukee Bucks beat Boston Celtics thanks to MVP performance by Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Milwaukee Bucks narrowly won their opening game at Disney World against the Boston Celtics. After a dominant start, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s team ended up a bit lucky that the MVP was able to end the game.

Milwaukee Bucks (54-12) – Boston Celtics (43-22) 119:112 (BOXSCORE)

Antetokounmpo was once again the dominant figure with the best team of the regular season with 356 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists, and in the closing minutes he made the decision together with Khris Midldeton (18 points). However, he should have got his sixth foul 2:30 minutes before the end.

However, this did not happen and so Milwaukee was able to win against one of his biggest rivals in the Eastern Conference. In the Celtics, Marcus Smart was the top scorer with 23 points from the bank, Jaylen Brown came up with 22 points and Daniel Theis played a strong double-double (13, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks). Gordon Hayward showed an appealing performance with 17 points, while Jayson Tatum disappointed across the board (5 points, 2/18 FG).

There was only one team present in the first minutes of the game: the game had barely started and Boston had hardly sorted itself, when the Bucks had already run a 17-2 run and Giannis sank his first two crashing dunks. With the substitution of Marcus Smart, a little stability came into play for the Celtics, a few minutes later there were only 2 points difference.

It was similar in the second quarter and beyond: The Bucks pulled a little bit of it several times, but Boston never let itself be shaken off completely and came back into the game. The Celtics recorded the whole game about bad throwing rates, but made diligent free throws. On the other hand, the Bucks struggled mainly with their distance throws and a less productive bank, which was also due to the fact that Eric Bledsoe and Pat Connaughton were not available.

Kemba Walker with good performance despite minute limit

Two minutes before the end of the third quarter, the Celtics took the lead in the game for the first time after a smart three, with 87:87 in the last round. Here, too, there was still an exchange of blows. While Kemba Walker had already exceeded his minute limit after a very decent performance (16 points, 5/9 FG in 19 minutes) and was therefore watching from outside, the Celtics offense was mainly about Smart and Gordon Hayward, while Antetokounmpo was not on the other side remained to stop.

However, 2:30 minutes before the end, the MVP was lucky not to foul when he met Theis in the groin area, who equalized on the opposite side to 107: 107. A minute later, Antetokounmpo actually appeared to be getting his sixth foul, but the call was changed: instead, it became an And-1 to the 3-point lead. A little later Middleton hit a threesome, after which Milwaukee left nothing to burn.
