Remembering William Michael “Mike” Boyette: A Life of Service and gadgets

La Grange, N.C. – William Michael “Mike” Boyette, 64, passed away early Saturday, May 17, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on September 23, 1960, in Harnett County, Mr. Boyette was the son of the late William Bennett Boyette, Jr. and Eunice Price Boyette. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jerry Sewell Donahue.

A Career Dedicated to Connectivity and Community

Mr. Boyette dedicated his professional life to electronics engineering, working with several cellular phone companies before his retirement. His commitment extended beyond his career, deeply rooted in community service.He served with the rescue squad in Suttontown and Fremont,volunteered with the Nahunta Fire Department,and served as a police officer for both Fremont and la Grange. His focus, according to those who knew him, was always on the well-being of others.

Known affectionately as the gadget man, mr. Boyette was recognized for his ever-present array of tools and gadgets. From pocket knives to flashlights, he was always prepared. His keychain, a testament to his preparedness, seemed to hold a key for every lock in the county. Combining his expertise as an electronics engineer with his love for gadgets,he also worked on two-way radios as a hobby and side business.

A Lasting Legacy of Love and Family

For nearly 32 years, Mr. Boyette was married to Tessa Donahue Boyette. Their relationship began as a friendship before evolving into a deep and lasting love. Together,they built a family and a legacy of devotion,raising two sons. He was deeply involved in his family’s lives, supporting their interests and sharing in their joys. Family trips to Pigeon Forge and Florida parks were highlights,and he was a constant presence at North Lenoir Athletics events,supporting his sons’ baseball endeavors.

His sense of humor was large and his love for others evident, even on his worse days. Above all, Mike’s heart for his family and his graciousness toward others was always on display.

Service and Remembrance

A service to celebrate Mr. Boyette’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Faith Fellowship Church in Kinston, with Pastor John Robert Harris officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Committal will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove.

Mr. Boyette is survived by his wife, Tessa Donahue Boyette; sons, Andrew Michael Boyette and Daniel Bryant Boyette; siblings, Billy Boyette (Sandra) and Bennett Myers; mother-in-law, Marjorie Ann Donahue; nephews, Brad Myers, Brian Myers (Brent Thomas), Troy C. Donahue Jr., and Randal Donahue; nieces, Katie Cross (Dustin) and Kelsey Donahue; great-nephews, Carter Myers and Easton Donahue; along with many extended family members and close friends.
