“Migrants arriving by boat are tested and there is no plan to do the same for tourists” | Radio Club Tenerife

Up to eight representatives: Official College of Social Work of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, of the Canary Network in Defense of the Public System of Social Services (REDESSCAN), of the Movement of Direct Nonviolent Action, of Café d´Espacio, of Doctors of the World and the Canary Islands Free from Cie´s, as well as from the Feminist Party and the LiluVa Association, have met in the last hours with The Deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes, and the attachment first, Felipe Afonso, where they have been asked to supervise the care given to migrants arriving in the Canary Islands.

The regional president of Doctors of the World, Elena Lugui, regrets the “lack of information” and the “lack of transparency” on the migrants that have arrived by sea to the Canary coasts. Also, acknowledge that they are concerned because there is no “a reception plan that guarantees their fundamental rights”.

Lugui also makes it clear that to all the people who arrive by boat “COVID19 tests are carried out”, a measure required for what arrives in the Canary Islands “but which is not required the same for tourists who land in the Archipelago.”

Meanwhile, the Deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes He informed them that, since it is the responsibility of the State to care for migrants, in the next few days he will meet with the national Ombudsman to convey their demands. In addition, it intends to establish channels of collaboration with the State Ombudsman for the supervision of the centers that serve these people.
