Microsoft Restructures Commercial Business, Elevates Judson Althoff to CEO
REDMOND, WA – February 29, 2024 – Microsoft today announced a notable restructuring of its commercial business, appointing Judson Althoff as CEO of the expanded association. The move aims to accelerate growth and sharpen focus amidst a “generational platform shift,” according to CEO Satya Nadella.
Althoff, who previously led Microsoft’s global sales organization for nine years and spearheaded the development of the Microsoft Customer and Partner solutions (MCAPS) organization, will now oversee a broader portfolio encompassing sales, marketing, and operations. Nadella described MCAPS as the “number one seed” in the industry and the company’s “most important growth engine.”
as part of the reorganization, Takeshi Numoto and his marketing team will report to Althoff as CMO, while continuing a reporting line to Nadella for overall business models, planning, consumer marketing, and corporate brand and communications. carolina Dybeck Happe will continue reporting to Nadella, focusing on company-wide transformation and partnering with Althoff.
A new commercial leadership team, drawing leaders from engineering, sales, marketing, operations, and finance, will be established under Althoff’s direction to drive product strategy, go-to-market readiness, and sales execution.
This restructuring is intended to free up engineering leaders, including Nadella himself, to concentrate on core technical areas such as datacenter buildout, systems architecture, AI science, and product innovation. “Each one of us needs to be at our very best in terms of rapidly learning new skills, adopting new ways to work, and staying close to the metal to drive innovation across the entire stack!!” Nadella stated in a company-wide memo.
nadella characterized the changes as “not just evolution, it’s reinvention,” for both individuals and Microsoft as a whole.
