Microsoft raises suggested retail dollar prices for ‘next-gen’ games for all platforms – Games – News

Microsoft increases suggested retail prices first party games at least in the US from 2023 from 60 to 70 dollars for all platforms. It is unclear whether such games will also become more expensive in the Benelux.

In one statement mentions Microsoft they include Redfall, Starfield, and Forza Motorsport as examples of games that will cost $10 more than their respective releases next year. The company says: “We have not yet implemented the MSRP increase to allow families to enjoy games this holiday season. As of 2023, our at full price games built for the next generation, like Forza Motorsport, Redfall and Starfield, $70 on all platforms.”

The price hike matches suggested retail prices from other major publishers including Sony, Take-Two Interactive, and Ubisoft. Microsoft says, “This award reflects the content, scope, and technical complexity of these titles.” Head of Xbox Phil Spencer warned that’s why a price hike for Microsoft games was “inevitable” recently. The company points out that first-party games will still be available via Game Pass soon after release.

Since the release of the current generation of consoles two years ago, many publishers have already moved to a higher MSRP for core games; usually the price in the Benelux also went from 60 to 65-75 euros, depending on the title. It is therefore very likely that all games that fall under Microsoft’s games branch will now cost 70 euros as standard.
