Little by little, technology has taken place in terms of basic communication relationships, which is why today it is very common to deal with a chatbot in customer service. Well, for Microsoft there are levels higher and the company is already thinking about keeping a deceased person alive digitally.
Technology refers to the creation of a digital version of a specific person
According to a report by Popular Mechanics, in December 2020, Microsoft registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office technology that would make possible the creation of a specific chatbot of a person. The document, whose patent is called Creating a Conversational Chat Bot of a Specific Person, details the use of digital information available about the person to create a virtual version that could be interacted with in different ways, even after death.
In this sense, Microsoft points out that through the collection of audiovisual elements it is possible to create a chat bot of anyone, reaching a level such that a 2D or 3D model could be created that shows expressions, movements and even uses the tone the person’s voice. To nurture this system, all types of content that the Internet user has on the network would be used, such as images, voice samples, publications on social networks and documents, that is, digital social data.
How controversial could this get? In short, it could be in terms of information management and in terms of people’s relationship with a digital version of someone who has already passed away. In this sense, this technology refers to The Boss AI, a device presented at Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and that it was loaded with information from The Boss, confusing Big Boss after listening to his mentor and confirming that it was his voice and ideas that were expressed through this medium.
