We already knew that the FSR should be cross-platform and reach consoles of this generation, which are equipped with RDNA2 architecture GPUs from AMD. However, the feature will arrive first (June 22) for PCs and will be supported on several video card models (including the competitor).

Also in March of this year, AMD’s corporate vice president and manager of the Radeon division, Scott Herkelman, had announced that FSR would not use machine learning to upscaling, and that this feature would not even be necessary to implement the technology.

Unfortunately, AMD still hasn’t given details of what process will be used to increase the resolution of games with less definition loss. However, a Reddit user used the shared images in the first FSR releases on Computex and showed that there is a noticeable loss of definition even in Ultra Quality mode.

It’s also worth noting that FidelityFX Super Resolution should also be supported on the PlayStation 5 in the future, and it could (in theory) be compatible with past-gen consoles, but implementation of FSR on Xbox One and PS4 is unlikely.
