Mick Schumacher reports to Formula 1 fans

He shocked the motorsport world when he crashed sideways into the barrier at top speed. Now Haas pilot Mick Schumacher is in touch with his fans – and gives an update.

After his bad accident in qualifying, Haas driver Mick Schumacher contacted his fans on Sunday night. He posted a photo of himself on Instagram with the caption: “Hello everyone, just wanted to say I’m fine. Thanks for the nice messages. The car felt great, we’ll come back stronger.”

Schumacher crashed sideways into the barriers on Saturday at high speed on the ultra-fast street circuit in Jeddah. The car was thrown across the track and then came to a stop badly damaged.

Felipe Massa relieved with good news

Schumacher was taken to a hospital for a check-up, but was able to leave it again late in the evening and is said to have phoned his mother, Corinna Schumacher. Numerous Formula 1 colleagues and ex-drivers wrote comments under the posted picture on Instagram, showing relief.

Felipe Massa, ex-teammate of Mick’s father Michael Schumacher, wrote: “Thank God you’re fine, good health, brother.” His teammate Kevin Magnussen also shared encouraging words: “You’re a tough guy.” Bernd Mayländer, the driver of the safety car, was also relieved: “It’s good to hear that you’re doing well.”

Schumacher’s racing team Haas has already announced that he will no longer start in Jeddah. So the next race would be the Melbourne circuit in Australia.
