Michel Platini on Robert Herbin: “We lived very beautiful adventures together”

“We lived together very beautiful adventures in this club which is unlike any other. These adventures which mark a whole career and make beautiful memories like the title of champion of France in 1981”, wrote in a press release the former triple Ballon d’Or.

Having joined ASSE in 1979, while the team coached by Herbin reigned over French football, Platini won his first and only title of champion of France two years later, the latest for Saint-Etienne. He also reached the French Cup final twice, before being transferred in 1982 to Juventus Turin.

“I also have a loving thought for the community of ASSE supporters who have just lost one of the greatest coaches in the history of the club”continued Platini.

Robert Herbin, nicknamed the “Sphinx”, died at the age of 81, after being hospitalized at the CHU de Saint-Étienne for serious cardiac and pulmonary insufficiencies, unrelated to the pandemic of new coronavirus.
