Michael Jordan opened a clinic in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina to help provide the community with health care in this difficult pandemic time. The goal is to meet those who do not have the opportunity to take advantage of insurance.
As early as three years ago, the 57-year-old Chicago Bulls legend provided $ 7 million for the opening of another similar center on Freedom Drive in Charlotte. His donation covered the purchase of the land and the construction of a clinic.
He has now worked with Novant Health to open a second clinic, seeking to fill in the gaps of non-existent health equity by offering comprehensive primary care.
“When we gathered to celebrate the opening of the first clinic last fall, no one could have predicted that we would face a global pandemic just five months later.“, He says.
With the opening of the new clinic on Statesville Avenue in the North End of the city, it is expected to include 12 patient examination rooms, an X-ray room and a space for physical therapy, as well as having a clinical social worker full time on site.
Michael Jordan asked us how we’ll measure the success of our clinics. The answer? The number of lives we touch, improve & save. Thanks to two patients who are sharing their stories, it’s clear we’re making a real difference in our communities that need us most. Thank you, MJ! pic.twitter.com/LTYIeOQJBu
