In a 2003 interview, dug up on February 21 by the Mirror, the ex-wife of Michael Jackson and daughter of Elvis Presley looks back on his marriage to the King of Pop. Lisa Marie Presley explains that she married the singer in an attempt to “save” him.
In the list of the most iconic but also the most improbable celebrity marriages, Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley figure prominently. The King of Pop and the King’s only daughter had surprised the whole world by marrying in 1994. If the wedding lasted only two years, this incredible union continues to fascinate today. In an old interview with Rolling Stone 2003 magazine, unearthed on February 21 by Mirror, Lisa Marie Presley talks about their relationship. She explains that she tried to “to save” Michael.
“I got into this ‘I’m going to save you’ thing”, she explains to the journalist. “I thought that all the things he did – philanthropy and its actions with children and all that – were great, and that maybe together we could save the world. ”
She thus admits to having found herself drawn in by the words of the King of pop, it must be said that he was playing on the chord with her … explaining to him that he felt misunderstood by the others. Far from his public image, the famous singer showed a completely different, more human face. The young woman admits to having completely veiled her face at the time. “Ok. I was in disillusionment”, she admits. “I had his romantic ideas in my head that I could save him and that together we could save the world.”
What however support the version that the marriage between Michael and Marie Lisa was indeed a real marriage, far from all the speculation that continues to run on a false marriage of convenience. While in 1993 Michael Jackson was prosecuted for child abuse, the first charge in a long series, many saw this union as a diversionary tactic. The two will never stop asserting the truth of their relationship. The fact remains that more than twenty years after their divorce in 1996 and almost ten years after the death of the king of pop, the Jackson-Presley couple is still in the news.
